3rd Quarter Stretch Goal

What did you learn?

  1. To realize when the black on a transperency is not completely back.
  2. The arms on the screen contraption are different lengths. (lol)
  3. How to effectively adjust the knobs on the screen contraption so it doesn’t take all day to line up screens.
  4. How to use the heat press for vinyl designs.

Why is this learning important to your project? How did it improve the project?

  1. It will save time in the future with trying to spray out screens when we have printed a bad transperency. Also, it will keep us from wasting screens.
  2. Will save time in the future and keep up from wasting screens. (not burning an extra screen when it was really lined up already)
  3. Again, saving time.
  4. The vinyl looks very nice for single color designs and now we know how to do names and numbers on the backs of shirts for future orders.

What resources did you use?

  1. Mr. Updegraff, my group, and the 8th hour group that helped us with the vinyl printing and weeding.
  2. Printing contraption, ink, emulsion, screens, vinyl, heat press, shirts, etc.

The first picture is a screen we had trouble spraying out because the circle was not in complete black on the transperency. This caused the rest of the design to spray out much faster than the circle and caused problems when printing. We have since learned to check the transperency before wasting a screen. The second picture is the shirt that we had to use the vinyl method on. We applied this newly learned method in order to complete the order and it ended up looking better than the ink in my opinion.

March 17th

Quarter Goal: Complete at least 3 shirt orders/ other merchandise.

Original Plan for the Week: Emulsion screens, burn new screen for Erica’s shirts, possibly work on striking out cancer.

Changes: We burned Katie’s volleyball marathon screen and tried three times to burn Erica’s but it didn’t work so we are doing her shirts with the vinyl.

Daily Log:

  • Monday: Emulsioned screens.
  • Tuesday: Cleaned up while we waited for the emulsion to dry.
  • Wednesday: Burned Katie’s screen and tried and messed up Erica’s screens.
  • Thursday: Test printed Katie’s shirt and discussed the vinyl shirts with the 8th hour peeps.
  • Friday: Printed the vinyl on Erica’s shirts and blogged.

Plan for Next Week: Burn Heyworth vs. Hunger screen and print shirts.

Pictured: Erica’s shirt’s transperency that didn’t spray out well, the Heyworth vs. Hunger transperency, all 5 failed screens from Erica’s shirts, and Katie’s screen.

March 10th

Quarter Goal: Complete at least 3 shirt orders/ other merchandise.

Original Plan for the Week: Start Erica’s volleyball marathon shirts or Heyworth vs. Hunger shirts.

Changes: I thought the striking out cancer screens didn’t line up but really I’m stupid and just put them on the wrong arms so we test printed those and lined them up. We also test printed Erica’s shirts but the screen was messed up so we redesigned it and are waiting on a new screen.

Daily Log:

  • Monday: Re-burned striking out cancer screen (even though we didn’t need to, oops).
  • Tuesday: Practice-printed Erica’s shirts and realized the screen wasn’t going to work.
  • Wednesday: Burned last few 911 shirts.
  • Thursday: Lined up striking out cancer shirts.
  • Friday: Blogged

Plan for Next Week: Emulsion screens, burn new screen for Erica’s shirts, possibly work on striking out cancer.
