December 15th

Checkpoint Goal: Start and finish sophomore and junior class shirts.

Original Plan for the Week: Re-burn the junior screens and print sophomore shirts.

Changes: We couldn’t re-burn the screens because they weren’t sprayed out in time and we couldn’t print the shirts because they haven’t  come in.

Daily Log:

  • Monday: Nothing. Waiting on shirts and screens.
  • Tuesday: Emulsioned Screens.
  • Wednesday: Nothing. Waiting on screens to dry.
  • Thursday: Work on Final Blog
  • Friday: Work on Final

Plan for Next Week: Work on Final

Pictured: Could not photograph emulsioned screens because they have to be kept in the dark.

1st Semester Final Blog

  • Burning Screens
    • We got into the habit of checking the transparencies before burning screens to make sure they were printed in rich black.
    • We learned how to fix screens without re-burning them if they were not sprayed out perfectly the first time by using Clorox wipes and green tape. This has saved us a lot of time and energy, especially on the sophomore class screen. Some of the thin letters were not sprayed out all the way and we used Clorox wipes to take off some of the emulsion as needed as seen in the picture below.

  • Making Less Mistakes
    • Last year my screen printing group went through a lot more shirts than what we did this year. This is proof of us making less mistakes and therefor being more efficient. Last year we burned through about enough shirts to fill this whole bin. This is the bin this year (some of the shirts in the bottom are still left over from last year and most of them are from the other class). Ally and I probably only wasted a total of 10 shirts through out the whole semester, if that.

  • Less Help Needed/ Problem Solving On My Own
    • Last year, my screen printing group needed help with almost every step of the process from lining up screens to solving problems during actual printing. This year we did almost all of it on our own.

December 1st

Checkpoint Goal: Start and finish sophomore and junior class shirts.

Original Plan for the Week: Burn screens for  sophomore and junior class shirts and start printing sophomore shirts.

Changes: We had some problems with the screens so we haven’t been able to start printing.

Daily Log:

  • Monday: Burned sophomore class shirt screen and organized the transparency book.
  • Tuesday: Taped sophomore screen. Burned the junior class screens. One didn’t spray out correctly due to the wrong black being used on the transparency.
  • Wednesday: Taped 1st junior screen, tried to print a new transparency for the second screen and it was missing a word.
  • Thursday: Print new transparency and burn second junior screen.
  • Friday: After printing a couple of the junior shirts I realized I burned the screens backwards. Lol.

Plan for Next Week: Re-burn the junior screens AGAIN because I’m stupid, then print junior shirts.

Pictured: Organized transparency book, sophomore screen and practice print, junior screens, and practice print of backwards shirt.
